Most of us aren’t born with an affinity for vegetables – especially not raw ones.

Most of us have on at least one occasion referred to the end to end salad bar at some all-you-can-eat buffet as “rabbit food”.

If it’s green and it’s not chocolate chip mint ice cream chances are we will usually find some reason excuse to keep from putting it on our plate. Be that as it may, most of us also recognize the importance of a well balanced diet and the concept of healthy eating caught up with us somewhere along the way. It’s usually our brief sojourn with an incredible plate of buffalo wings that helps us to see the light when it comes to salad. It wasn’t the wings so much as the blue cheese or ranch dressing served on the side. And there was the epiphany… YES! With enough salad dressing you can make almost anything MORE palatable! (really you can – think corn dogs with blue cheese, or steak nachos with ranch, or Totino’s pizza rolls with blue cheese OR ranch – you get the idea) But maybe you don’t like blue cheese or ranch dressing, or maybe you can’t find a good one kept in the produce section that doesn’t still have a ton of chemicals…And so our efforts to eat those healthy vegetables in their fresh, raw state is punctuated by some of the most unhealthy selections available outside of fast food & junk food… enter your salad dressing of choice.

A little more than a week ago we highlighted the unwanted chemicals in what many consider to be the healthiest salad dressing mix available. It’s not nearly as good for you as you might hope and that realization is enough to derail most efforts to eat healthier starting with salad!

We aim to change all that! Enter our new line of simple seasonings™- Dressing Up! salad dressings. We believe that the key to making a GOOD salad taste BETTER is using the BEST dressing possible. Why should you sacrifice healthy eating for great flavor? Or give up tasty deliciousness for a more healthy dressing? You shouldn’t and you don’t have to.

We are introducing three and providing you the ingredients list for each. All three are gluten free & vegan friendly and chemical free! For your satisfaction, here’s what’s what with the “other” ingredients listed below that are included in our blends:

Soybean Oil – relax, it’s non-GMO

Calcium Stearate – Plant based calcium salt derived from palm oil

Silicone Dioxide – Plant based (primarily vegetable skins)

Oleoresin Paprika – Red Chile based extract of carotinoid antioxidant (used to preserve the freshness of the dried herbs)

Everything else on the list is easily recognizable with nothing your grandmother couldn’t pronounce.

Directions

So, how do you use these? We’ve made that simple too! If you have a cruet in the cabinet you can use it just like you used to. Place 4 level teaspoons of any of our three dressing mixes in the cruet and then add the liquids as directed by the lines on the cruet. Let stand for 30 minutes to 2 hours depending upon how much moisture you would like to herbs to absorb. Shake and serve!

We recommend a White Balsamic, Pinot Grigio, Champagne or Rice Wine Vinegar when selecting the Citrus or Raspberry blends. When using our Original, we recommend a nice Aged or Aged Sweet Modena Balsamic. You’ll appreciate the difference!

Aside from salads, these dressings make INCREDIBLE meat marinades; fish, chicken & beef. Make the dressing up as you normally would, place your protein of choice in a ziplock bag and pour the dressing in over the protein. Bleed the air out of the bag and let sit for 24 hours. Your patience will be rewarded with sheer tongue pleasing deliciousness!

If you don’t have a cruet, add the same 4 level teaspoons of dressing mix to the following:

1/4 c. vinegar (your choice of course)

3 tbsp. water

1/2 c. olive oil

Let stand and before and stir, whisk or shake prior to serving.

Look for them online starting on Monday or at any of the markets we serve as of Friday, January 27, 2012. Don’t forget the Hawaiian Black sea salt or Peppercorns for your salad either!
